Students from Mount Royal University created this film highlighting a new zero carbon cottage here at CottageClub.

Did you know CottageClub has a long-standing partnership with SAIT’s Green Building Technology Lab?  Each lot owner is given 10 hours of included consultation to explore green building solutions for their cottage.

What is green building or sustainable design?

Green building, or sustainable design, is the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings and their sites use energy, water, and materials, and of reducing impacts on human health and the environment for the entire lifecycle of a building. Green-building concepts extend beyond the walls of buildings and include site planning, community, and land-use planning issues as well (Greenbuilt, 2021).

Why is zero-carbon construction so important?

Due to the world’s growing population, buildings’ energy demand may increase by up to 50% by 2050. However, the transition to an energy-efficient, low carbon building sector could provide energy savings of 50%.  In Canada, 17% of all emissions come from residential, commercial, and institutional buildings (Greensaver, 2020).
