Our Partners in Innovation

SAIT’s Green Building Technology Team

CottageClub has been committed to providing sustainable building options since our community was founded, and we’re doing it again by partnering with SAIT’s Green Building Technology Team.

CottageClub and SAIT Green Building Technology have teamed up to improve the energy efficiency of new and existing cottages at CottageClub Ghost Lake. With every lot purchased from the developer, CottageClub will pay up to 10 hours of planning time with SAIT’s Green Building Technology Team.

SAIT is Providing CottageClub Owners with:

Affordable ways to achieve net zero energy construction and reduce utility bills
Innovative options for high performance building envelopes, mechanical systems, advanced energy monitoring and renewable energy.

SAIT’s Services Include:

  • Analyzing your cottage energy requirements (based on your proposed cottage design)
  • Planning your cottage orientation to maximize solar options
  • Analyzing your building envelope design to lower energy requirements
  • Identifying requirements needed for Alberta-Made Geothermal Heating/Cooling Systems
  • Providing information about Passive Solar Windows, Thermal Solar requirements, PV Solar requirements (so you can take advantage of free energy)

Greywater Biofilter Initiative

The Developer, SAIT,  Bow River Basin Council (BRBC) and the Federal Government are teaming up on a “Greywater Biofilter Initiative” at CottageClub.  Under this R & D project we will be testing and proving how to safely use grey water  (shower, tub and laundry water) within the cottage property year round.    In general terms we will be building a contained bioswale filled with native vegetation that will accept grey water year round.
The lead Engineers on this project are:

Zero Carbon Home

A Partnership between the Owner of Lot 223, CottageClub Developer, SAIT and Alberta Innovates

The Zero Carbon Home is a year-round cottage that is designed to emit very little to no carbon in its construction and operation. With the construction industry contributing roughly a quarter of GHG emissions worldwide, creating low to zero carbon homes is a logical evolution within the industry in an effort to lessen our contribution towards climate change and to provide resiliency in the built environment.

Upon completion, this cottage will be open periodically to the public for educational tours.
